March 28 =  my last day in Cleveland

February 13th, 2008

So,  you all know about my parking spot right?  I mean, you have to- I'm sure I've ranted before.  Anyways, I'm not going to get into the past because its going to bring me down and I don't need it!  So, suffice it to say, my neighbors plowed the snow in front of my spot again, and when I got home from work last night (at MIDNIGHT- don't even get my started about that) I couldn't get into my spot.  So I parked halfway and just ran inside.  I got out fine this morning, but when I got back this afternoon, all the snow melted.  To be replaced by a thick sheet of ice.  Oh yeah, I got stuck halfway in my spot again and this time, I can't move- in or out.  It sucks.  I hate my spot.  It just makes my life miserable.  Ugh!

At least Torchwood is new.  And something about advanced showings?  Are both this week and next week's episodes on tonight?  I missed Nip/Tuck due to the fact I was living the medical life until 12 am.  Yuck!

Also, I was in Texas last week, it was amazing.  Kind of like the cruelest joke though. Hey, you get to hang out in 80 degree weather, but have to sit inside all day and then we're going to send you back to freezing cold and snow.  Seriously, it was horrible.  It was so nice, and then we get 6 inches of snow.  Shazam!

Just hope all the salt I threw on the ice melts it.  It better, that's like a law or something.  If the laws of nature cease to exist with this, I'm going have a meltdown, like the ice will.

1.  Flipping through the channels and finding last night's Colbert Report.  WITH JON STEWART AND CONAN O'BRIEN AND LOTS OF ASS KICKING!  I cried a little- it was so funny.  I'd assume its on youtube somewhere.  It was lovely.  They are ALL John McCain!  (I think).

2. Jonathan Schneider on Nip/Tuck.  His character is totally a scuzzball, but he is so gorgeous and his name is Ram!  And Sharon Gless as Sean's crazy crazy killer agent.   Oh, how I love this show.

3. Montana in a month!

I'm packing for Minnesota and I can't find my earbuds!!  This is really horrible.  My flight leaves at, like, 7 am and I really need music on the plane.  Ugh!  I might even stoop so low as to by new ones at the airport, but I think that would be really expensive.  I should not be leaving at 7 am, but the travel people messed it up and now I have to leave my apartment at 5, so I have to wake up at 4 AND I CAN'T FIND MY EARBUDS!

A Good week:

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Lots of fun stuff happened this week:

1) Nip/Tuck is AMAZING.  You think "They've gone all the way, they can't go any farther."  Then you watch the next week- and they've GONE EVEN FARTHER.  I lost all semblance of the English language at the end of this episode.  Love it, love it.

2) Another Cavs game.  Christi has season tickets and really loves the Cavs.  So we spent less time spying on people, but did make sure to see LeBron's girlfriend show up with LeBron Jr (who totally was having none of the sidelines) and the baby!  And we looked for one of the Docs we work with, but he didn't show up.  Christi was also entirely too inappropriate towards Drew Gooden many times during the night, which just made it more hilarious.

3) Torchwood is lovely too.  Ianto was pure genius, although I think that the character will get old if he just spouts off one-liners all the time.  Which I don't think will happen.  Because he's amazing. And lovely.  And has that Welsh  accent.

4) Coconut Records arrived and its a great CD, although I don't like any of it more than I like the songs I heard previously.  It came with a sweet poster of Jason that I don't really know what to do with?  Maybe hang in the closet?

4) Other than working 60 hours, I had two really really great cases this week.  It was awesome!

5)[info]iamtheenemy is coming to Cleveland in May!  Woot!  If I still live here in May!

Music round-up

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, I discovered Coconut Records on Friday night and was completely taken.  I think I'm obsessed with "West Coast."  I am going to ignore my own ignorance of Jason Schwartzman being musically-inclined before this (not like I listened to Phantom Planet  or whatever anyway).  He's amazing!  Amazing!  I tried to buy the album yesterday, but Borders doesn't carry it, Best Buy is super far away (and probably doesn't carry it anyway), and Record Revolution, our indie store, is undergoing massive renovations.  It was horrible!!  I ran out after finding the CD on Borders.com and was kinda crushed when they didn't have it.  I think I teared up.

Don't feel too bad for me though- I did buy the first album by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.  I can't let good gift cards go to waste!  And its a great CD.  A really really good CD.  I ordered Coconut Records off their website, as it comes with a FREE SPECIAL GIFT.  I don't know what it is and its some consolation as the CD is going to take 10 days to 2 weeks to get here.  I guess I'll just have to keep myself going with the few songs on the band's myspace.  I still want it now.

This has been a very music-y weekend.  I finally listened to Caroline and started listening to Hidden Cameras (but no Jens yet, Caro).  From Roger, its been all Andrew Bird and Beirut.  I love it!  Youtube is awesome.  Awesome.  I recommend any and all of these bands to you my LJ buddies.

Also this weekend:  A real live basketball game!  The Cavs won in double overtime, which made for an exciting game.  I spent most of it drinking and spying on LeBron James' girlfriend.  We sat in the next to last row of the Q- there was little else to do!  They finally scored over 100 points, so we got free Chalupas and McDonald's fries Yum!!!

Torchwood starts on Wednesday!!!!  I've been scouring the internet for any and all previews and it's so exciting!!!!

So, in honor of Torchwood returning soon (Jan 16!!!!), I've been rewatching season1 and its been amazing.  I've found my undying love for Owen- you knock it, but he's the man- and am over-my-head excited for the new season.    Finishing the first season then jumpstarted a huge youtube search including several "Day-in the-Lifes"  and Ianto rapping.  I hope I've got that link working.  It's lovely even though Gareth David-Lloyd doesn't make much sense.  You've got to love the Welsh.  Also, I watched Never Mind the Buzzcocks when John Barrowman guested which led to a Gay-Off.  Love it!!!!  Of course, lots of great articles.  My favorite is not being found at the moment, but I'm sure I've sent it to those I think care.

In bad news, my frames snapped last night.  Really, last thing I need right now is to run around to Pearle Vision or Lencrafters and get new glasses.  I'm hoping they can just glue my old ones!

Only 10 more days to new Torchwood!! YAY!!

Thanks, Steph, for all the DW lovin'.   I'm almost caught up, yo!!!

A few things....

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
1)  Bart loves my printer.  Like LOVES it.  No matter where she is in the apartment, when I turn it on, she comes running.  She lays all over it, has figured out how to turn it on and off and is just infatuated.  It's really cute actually.  Except when I try to use the printer.  Then its annoying.

2)  I was at Whole Foods a few days ago and they had the most beautiful Christmas trees.  Really, they were all huge and filled-out and I've never seen such lovely trees.

3)  Last night my favorite Christmas movie, White Christmas, was on.  I was so excited, but then I realized that they cut half of it out!!  They cut out so many of the musical numbers.  It made me sad.  However, I was still bawling by the end.

4) I found an atheist book, God Isn't Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, at Borders and I'm buying it when I head back there.  I think I might get in touch with my inner atheist.  My parents are going to flip.  Well, my mom is.  I think my Dad will be super excited to have someone to discuss theology with.  Maybe.

(Caroline: this is what I've been trying to tell you.  And you have this book in your Books list on Facebook.  Have you read it?)

5) I worked 54 hours last week!  This week might be a little slower.  And I'm home for Christmas Dec 22!!!!!!!

How much do I love Nip/Tuck??  There are no words.  It's amazing.  I can't even fathom how they come up with these storylines.  This season is much much better than last season.  You should all do yourselves favors and start watching it!

YAY NEW B&S ICON GOODNESS!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Steph was amazing and took some time out of her day and made me fabulous icons!!  I love them!  They are all soo lovely, and of course all Belle and Sebastian.  Thanks, Steph!  You're amazing!!

I have been watching pretty much nothing but HGTV lately.  My favorite show is House Hunters, but I watch pretty much anything else.  I can't stand Divine Design or Color by Design, but otherwise, I'm hooked!!  I totally passed over new CSI this week to watch Deserving Design with Vern Yip.  I love that every show has Design in the title.  They are soooooo clever with their titles.

I'm still in Detroit, but not working with the guys who made my life unhappy.  I'm cross-training in another product line, which might help me get to Chitown sooner (and soon, at that!)  Its too early to tell (and really, who wants to move during the winter) but hopefully earlyish next year.

I saw Across the Universe a couple of weeks ago and I loved it.  It was awesome and amazing and nothing less than what I expect from Julie Taymor.  Eddie Izzard was too cool as Mr. Kite.

I bought seasons 1&2 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia a few weeks ago, as well, but only made headway on them today.  I love that show so much.  It's like a version of Friends I can watch.  Plus, they have the most amazing guest stars (read:  Michael Rosenbaum!!!!!)

Yay!  Thats all for me.  OSU is 10-0 which is quite lovely, and ranked #1.  We just have to get through Illinois and Michigan to get to the BCS bowl.  Hopefully we can get it done.  I know Michigan is just waiting to spoil our season, but we'll get them!!

Look at the icons!  Get ready for more!!

Also, Chuck.

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I finally caught an episode of Chuck and was pleasantly surprised.  It was happiness to see Adam Baldwin again, even though he is not anything like Jayne (well, except being the tough, creepy guy.)  I suppose my icon could work both ways.  YAY Firefly legacy!!

My head? Exploded!

Ok, so as some of you know, I'm staying at an extended stay hotel while in Detroit.  Its fine, whatever, no problem.  Well, tonight I decided to do some laundry and so did everyone else, I guess.  There are two washers and two dryers.  Fine ok, it should work out if you get into a washer, then you get a dryer.  Somehow I was booted from the washer while waiting for a dryer.  So I go back to check it out a few minutes later and there's this guy just finishing putting his stuff in the dryer.  My stuff is sitting right there on a washer, waiting.  The guy starts going on about how the dryers don't dry stuff in the allotted time and blah blah blah.  So he needs extra time, fine whatever.  I leave my stuff sitting on the washer and go back in a huff to my room.  I go back a little later, armed with Sudoku, to wait out a dryer.  Lo and behold, his dryer is done.  So, what do I do? I take it all out.  If he wants to hold up dryers and then not get it on time or set it up or whatever, then he better be ready for the consequences.  And this is when I make the startling discovery-- he never cleaned out the lint trap!!!!!!!!!!! Gee, I wonder why his laundry wasn't drying.  He did have a English, or Australian or something- accent.  Do dryers overseas not have lint traps?  Is there some amazing way they have developed a dryer to run without one?  Because I would LOVE to see that.  So, that is why I don't really feel bad about removing his laundry (although I am kind of scared about running into him again when I have to go get mine).  If you can't physically do laundry, then you better not mess up my night.

Ugh!!!  I'm so mean in Detroit.  If it was Cleveland, I would probably leave it go and happily watch No Reservation.  But I'm in Detroit, dammit!!!  And I want my laundry done BEFORE No Reservation.  And its my choice.

And also 8 minutes before I can be soothed by Anthony Bourdain's dulcet tones.

CSI and Smallville (gasp)

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
So, this episode of CSI is not thaaaat great.  But it has had a couple of cute moments.  I'm honestly a fan of Conrad Ecklie, seriously.  I mean, he's such a tool and all, but I think he wants to be friends with Grissom.  And liked by the rest of the CSI staff, although he doesn't make it easy.  What else is cute?

-Sara and Grissom and their differing versions of intimacy.  It's so cute and so completely in character for them both
-Greg making bombs when he was younger- pretty much my favorite quote of the night. (ie Nick: When I was younger, blah blah blah.  Greg:  When I was a kid, I made bombs.  Little ones.
-Doc Robbins and SuperDave talking about their photo album of dead people!  Awwwww.

Also, while waiting for 30 Rock to start, I watched the first half of Smallville to get my MR fix.  It is the WORST written show I have ever had the displeasure to watch.  I mean, jeez, how do writers write that?  How do actors put up with it?  Wow. Wow.  Like this: (which I'm totally paraphrasing)
Lex: Tell me what you know, Chloe.
Chloe:  I know you need psychiatric help, Lex!

Wait, seriously?  Did two, supposedly intelligent and well-versed, characters really say that?  LAME!  LAME!

Detroit Rock City

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I'm currently sitting in the living area of my extended stay hotel.  It's alright- separate bedroom, full kitchen, hi-speed internet, crappy cable.  And when I say crappy, I mean, the worst ever.  Well, I suppose I could have no cable at all.  And I do have the normal channels for CSI, The Office, 30 Rock and the like.  But no Top Chef (and right before the finale!!), no Nip/Tuck or It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, no Project Runway or any of the crap I watch on MTV/VH1/Comedy Central.  I mean, WHO is Bret Michaels going to choose??????

Also, there is no dresser or drawers in the desks.  I had to squeeze 8 weeks of clothes into 2 bedside tables.  It was a tight fit, but I made it.  And no desk drawers?  Where do you put your pens?  Paper?  All the crap you don't know what else to do with???

Bart is with me, though.  I think i would have died 2 months without her.  It was a super rough ride up here, but eventually I found the guts to give her the sedative (it would help, make her worse, or drop her bp so low she would need vet attention).  She was pretty out of it, but I guess thats better than when she split all of her nails trying to get out of her cage or when she puked all over or started foaming at the mouth.  EWWWWW.

Anyways, we're settled now.  Just have to get through the next few weeks........

This is why I love Anthony Bourdain [talking about next week's top chef]:

I should point out, by the way, that I'm guest judging again next week. Which means I know what happens. And while I am precluded from discussing future broadcasts by a confidentiality agreement rivalling the NSA's in the severity of its penalties for unauthorized disclosure, I can reveal this: There will be a SlaughterFest of Horror, an Orgy of Bloodletting, Partial Nudity, Flammable Liquids.

Oh, I love you, Tony!!  Seriously, if you get the travel channel, watch No Reservations.  PLEASE!

As an aside: I'm not moving to Detroit!  Woot Woot!  Just wasn't the right fit, so whatev.
Unspeakable Misuse of Power Tools and Small Woodland Creatures, and the Plaintive Wailing of the Doomed. It will make Altamont look like Lilith Fair.

Did you guys hear this?

from IMDB:

Rock legend David Bowie is set to star in the next series of British TV series Doctor Who, playing an alien. Producers of the BBC show have targeted the singer because of his "great other-worldly looks" according to reports. British newspaper The Sun claims the 60-year-old will clash with actor David Tennant's Doctor in a two-part episode of the show, which will be aired next year. A source tells the newspaper, "Bowie said he'd be interested as long as he's not subjected to hours of disfiguring make-up."

ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today was probably the worst day of my working life ever.  Anything that could go wrong, went wrong.  And to make matters worst, most of it was out of my control, but just got dumped on me and exacerbated the whole situation.  It's not a big deal because I can learn from my mistakes, but sometimes I feel like I'm fighting an uphill battle.  I can't be super prepared if I find out what I'm supposed to do an hour before I do it.  I can't have my bags with everything people use in Detroit when I really only know what we use in Cleveland.  I can't easily order product when I'm away from my mailing address 3 out of 5 days a week.  Communication is going to be a huge issue, I think.  Because now I look like a dumb-ass and its really (mostly) not my fault.  Oh well.

In other news my friends Mal and Adam got engaged.  Even though their wedding isn't for, like, 2 years, I think tonight I will start looking for a pretty persimmon bridesmaid dress.  Plus, they are moving to Boston this week, and I won't see Mal (or Adam) for forever!!! Woe is me.

On the upshot though, I'm going home and will see [info]iamtheenemy.  What what.

On a downshot, I won't be seeing [info]tuebular before she takes off for lands unknown, but we're going to rock Europe next year anyways:)  And I will be sending you that awesome package....you know, as soon as I'm at a mailable address.
